The Inclusive Skills Development Initiative (ISDI) has officially launched its flagship Laptop and Phone Repair Training Programme for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
This transformative initiative is designed to equip participants with practical, in-demand technical skills in mobile phone and laptop repairs, empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods, support their families, and contribute meaningfully to economic development.
The training programme is being implemented across four Area Councils of the FCT:
✅ Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC)
✅ Gwagwalada Area Council
✅ Bwari Area Council
✅ Kuje Area Council
The programme was officially launched on 16 June 2026 at the Palace of the Sa'Karuyi of Karu Community in Karu. Prior to the commencement of training, the ISDI team, volunteers, and participants paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness Joseph Danfulani Narai, who warmly welcomed the initiative and offered his royal blessings for its success.
Speaking at the launch, Angelina Ugben Executive Director of ISDI, expressed profound appreciation to Ford Foundation for its invaluable support in making the project a reality. She also commended the dedication of facilitators, volunteers, and stakeholders whose commitment has been instrumental to the successful rollout of the programme.
According to her, skills acquisition remains one of the most effective pathways for reducing unemployment, fostering economic independence, and advancing disability inclusion in Nigeria.

Expanding Digital Opportunities
Looking ahead, ISDI will launch an Online Digital Skills Training Programme in August 2026, targeting approximately 500 persons with disabilities. The programme will provide training in digital and business-related competencies, including computer hardware systems, power supply units (PSUs), and central processing units (CPUs).
Participants have expressed heartfelt gratitude to ISDI, the Ford Foundation, and partner organisations for creating opportunities that will enhance their employability, improve income prospects, and strengthen their capacity for independent living.
Through initiatives like this, ISDI continues to champion a more inclusive society where persons with disabilities have equitable access to opportunities, skills development, and economic empowerment.
