Our Empowering Programs
At ISDI, we firmly believe in the Power of Education, Inclusion, Advocacy, and Health to Change Lives.
Skills Training
The skills training curriculum is designed to meet international best practices. The focus is on providing participants with access to financial services upon completion of various programs.
Programs include making bags and shoes, producing detergents and disinfectants, catering services, event planning and decoration, graphics design and computer programming, hairdressing and cosmetology, knitting, and bead making, among others. Certifications are offered in collaboration with SMEDAN and ITF. Participants who successfully complete any chosen program are eligible for a start-up support grant.
Disability Rights-based Advocacy
This program utilizes the legal tools of the Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities Prohibition Act and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
The focus is on advocating for the passage of better legislation and policy implementation that addresses inclusion in politics and governance, employment discrimination, and inaccessible work and living environments. Collaborative efforts with organizations and individuals providing pro bono legal services have helped members secure their jobs and obtain compensation, and justice for sexual and gender abuses.
Assistive Technology
This intervention aims to identify women and girls with disabilities and other vulnerable groups. The goal is to determine their specific needs and provide the necessary assistive technology or devices to aid their mobility, enhance performance at workplaces, and improve their social interaction. The procedures for benefiting from this intervention are completely open, fair, and transparent.
Healthcare and Counselling Services
Through her Free Medical Outreach, ISDI provides basic healthcare and counselling services to individuals with disabilities. The program aims to promote physical activity, improve nutrition, reduce the use of tobacco, alcohol, or drugs, and screen for illnesses such as cancer, diabetes, and heart disease.
It ensures that people with disabilities have access to public health programs and healthcare services to maintain their health, activity, and engagement in their various communities. Our organization works to include accessibility features for all people with disabilities across public health systems and serves as a resource for increasing knowledge and changing attitudes and practices related to people with disabilities.
