SUCCESSFUL STAKEHOLDERS' ENGAGEMENT ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE DISCRIMINATION AGAINST PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PROHIBITION) ACT, 2018

May 16, 2024, marked a significant milestone for inclusivity in Nigeria. The Inclusive Skills Development Initiatives (ISDI) hosted a transformative workshop at Jasmine Place & Suites, Abuja, supported by FIDA Nigeria. International Federation of Women Lawyers and sponsored by the MacArthur Foundation. 
Key Highlights
- Unwavering Commitment: Stakeholders reaffirmed their dedication to fully implement the Disability Act, envisioning a society where inclusivity is the norm. 
- Nonprofit Impact: The vital role of nonprofits in advocacy, capacity building, and promoting accessibility was spotlighted. 
- Actionable Steps: Discussions led to concrete actions, including establishing committees, developing frameworks, conducting audits, and ensuring the 5% employment quota for Persons with Disabilities. 
- Collaborative Efforts: The essence of partnership among all sectors was emphasized as the key to success. 
- Outcomes & Next Steps: A consensus on the challenges and strategies for the Disability Act’s implementation. A collective pledge to advocacy and action. An agreement to continue collaborative efforts to realize the Act’s full potential.
